If there is one thing I wish I had got to do in my life it is to fly
on Concorde. Not that I did and indeed will ever will have enough money
to do so, but it would have been nice. But alas they are all been
mothballed (because they were dangerous) and are now in museums around
the World. But what happens to all the other passenger planes that have
been retired or scraped? Well it seems people do all sorts of strange
things with them….
The World’s Top 10 Best Ways to Recycle Airplanes
.
Airplane turned into play park
10 – Keeping the kids happy.
Those of you that have been reading my blog for a while might well remember this image from my post “Top 10 Most Amazing Play Parks”
but for a bit of background info it is located in a Air-base, Ukraine
and is one of the best ways to recycle a plane I have seen!
Airplane turned into School
9 – The School Run
When the Georgian city of Rustavi need a new kindergarten classroom
they knew things were not going to be easy. With the country running out
of money and local councils making cuts not commitments they knew they
needed to think outside the box. And it seems they looked to the skies
for inspiration because they ended up turning a Yakovlev Yak-42 plane
into what I think is the worlds coolest school!
Airplane turned into Boat
8 – The Seaplane
I have no idea how hard it is to convert a passenger plane into a
pleasure boat but it seems to work really well! Made by Dave Drimmer
& Jeff Gibbs the ‘Cosmic Muffin’ really is very creative making it a
great use of old planes.
Airplane turned into Furniture
7 – Who is this IKEA person you speak of?!?
From a conference desk made from the wings, to a bed and reception
desk made from the planes turbines, these amazing bits of furniture are
from a company called Motorart and what they do best is recycle
components of airplanes into functional furniture!
Airplane turned into Limo
6 – Super Taxi
This incredible Limo made from an old Boeing 727 jet plane was once again first seen in my post ”Top 10 Most Unusual Limousines”
and is owned by a Mexican Limo firm with a taste for the creative. I
would love to turn up at the airport for my flight in this.
Airplane turned into Caravan
5 – Fly Berth
This single passenger Piper Comanche micro has been turned into a
single berth caravan with Hugh Darrington at the controls his project
called “ AEROCAMPER ” is a great use of smaller planes that have been
put into retirement for whatever reason.
Airplane turned into Bus
4 – From Airbus to…well, a bus!
Seem in Queensland Australia is amazing bus was once a
classic McDonnell Douglas DC-3 but is now a road legal bus! Not only is
this a great idea, but given the retro look of the original planes nose
it helps it to look amazing as well.
3 – The only plane that gives everyone a sleeper seat!
Located at Stockholm airport this rather unusual hotel called “Jumbo
Stay” was once a Boeing 747 and apparently is a rather high-class place
to stay. Perfect if you are waiting for a transfer flight, it was made
by Oscar Dios who apparently just loves planes!
Airplane turned into Restaurant
2 – In Flight Food
Seen in Mokpo City, South Korea this Boeing 747 restaurant has in
fact been closed down because it was deemed to be unsafe. But in its hay
days it had over 150 tables that could accommodate over 500 people! It
is a real shame it’s gone because it looks amazing.
Airplane turned into house
1 – Flying home
This is the stunning home of Joanne Ussary who bought an old Boeing
727 for next to nothing and ended up with one of the most famous homes
in the World! Not only does it look cool outside, it also looks rather
cool on the inside! (See image link for more details)
